144kWh BESS Site Readiness: Nine Questions Before the Quote
Nine site-readiness questions for a 144kWh liquid-cooled C&I battery project, covering load data, location, electrical design, controls and handover.

A buyer can ask for a 144kWh BESS price in one sentence. A responsible proposal cannot be built in one sentence. The cabinet is only part of the project; the site has opinions too.
Ask these nine questions before the quotation becomes a guessing contest.
- What problem must the system solve?
Peak management, solar self-consumption, backup support and microgrid operation require different controls and operating priorities. Choose the primary objective first.
- Do we have interval load data?
Monthly bills rarely show short peaks or operating cycles. Provide interval data, shift patterns, weekend behavior and known future load changes.
- Which loads are critical?
List the equipment that must remain available, its running demand, startup demand and permitted interruption time. “The factory” is not a load list.
- Where will the cabinet sit?
Confirm access, foundations, drainage, clearances, ventilation paths, flood exposure, impact protection, service space and local fire requirements.
- What are the electrical conditions?
Provide voltage, frequency, phase, transformer and switchgear data, short-circuit information where required, grounding arrangement and point of connection.
- How will the system communicate?
Define meter locations, energy-management functions, communications protocols, remote monitoring, alarm ownership and cybersecurity expectations.
- What ambient conditions matter?
Share the temperature range, altitude, humidity, dust, salt exposure and any corrosive environment. Liquid cooling supports thermal management, but it does not repeal physics or maintenance.
- What approvals and documents are required?
Identify local grid, electrical, fire, building and environmental requirements. Request the applicable current documents without assigning certificates to an unverified entity.
- Who owns commissioning and handover?
Set responsibilities for installation checks, energization, functional testing, training, spare parts, maintenance and acceptance records.
What the supplier should return
A serious response should identify assumptions, missing inputs, proposed operating strategy, major interfaces and next-step engineering data. If the answer is only a cabinet photo and a price, the site has not been quoted—only the metal has.
