32kWh Battery: Large Home or Small Business—Where Does It Fit?

A boundary guide for deciding whether a 32kWh battery belongs in a large home or light-commercial project without guessing power or runtime.

A 32kWh battery sits in an interesting neighborhood: larger than the usual residential starter system, smaller than many industrial projects and frequently asked to wear both hats.
The right category is not decided by the building sign. A large villa can have demanding pumps and cooling. A small shop can have a modest overnight load. The load profile, required backup window and site design make the decision.
Large-home questions
Which circuits must survive an outage?
Are there pumps, air conditioners, gates, lifts or refrigeration with startup demand?
Is the goal selected-load backup, solar self-use or a longer autonomous window?
Can the installation location provide the required clearance, ventilation and access?
Small-business questions
Which loads protect revenue or safety—point-of-sale, refrigeration, communications, security, lighting or a small production process?
Does the business need backup, tariff management or both?
What is the measured interval load profile on working and non-working days?
Who will monitor alarms and maintain the system?
Capacity is not power
The 32kWh figure describes energy capacity. It does not state the product’s power output. Do not infer inverter ratings from a different cabinet or from another supplier’s brochure. Request the latest LinkPower datasheet and compare it with measured simultaneous and startup loads.
A simple decision table
Large home: comfort and continuity; priority circuits; residential installation constraints; household operating habits.
Small business: revenue and process continuity; interval load data; operating schedules; site and compliance requirements.

The awkward but useful question
What happens when the battery reaches its reserve? A good proposal explains which loads disconnect, how priority is managed and how the site recovers. “Everything keeps running” is not an operating strategy.
When 32kWh is worth evaluating
It is a sensible starting point when the project needs more energy than common home systems but does not yet justify a larger C&I cabinet. That boundary must be confirmed with the actual load curve and current equipment data.
What to send for a quotation
Provide interval data if available, a circuit list, startup loads, required backup time, tariff structure, existing solar/inverter information, site photos, voltage, destination market and installation conditions.
